The Right to Return Alliance - December 2021

Dissatisfied with the cooptation of the “Historic Diaspora” agenda by the “Continental Diaspora'' within the AU 6th Region Initiative, Grace Abena James decided that the agenda articulated in the Motion to the AU Executive Council 39th Extraordinary Session, and in particular, the “Right to Return”, needed its own mobilization campaign directed by members of the Historic Diaspora that had rematriated to their ancestral homeland. From this discontent, shared by Siphiwe Baleka, the Right to Return Alliance (RTRA) was born along with other founding members. The RTRA held its first meeting on December of 2021, issued a press release on January 30th, and on February 7, 2022 the RTRA held a press conference launching its campaign, “2022: The Year of Promoting the African Descendants’ Right to Return (ADRTR)”
